IRobot Roomba S9+ vs Shark IQ: The Leading Products Of Two Brands

IRobot Roomba S9+ vs Shark IQ

Is the more expensive, the better? I believe you all noticed that the iRobot Roomba S9+ vs Shark IQ has many distinct factors and features. Some might even conclude from the headline that the Roomba S9+ must be the winner due to its advanced technologies.

Don’t rush. Sometimes, you pay more of your money for a better product, but it does not suit your family’s house condition at all. So the principle above has nothing to affect your decision. To choose the one that is compatible with your home, I believe we should carefully browse through 5 stages of design, suction power, cleaning performance, battery life, and noise.

Before diving in, check out this short info chart below for a better grasp.

Comparison between iRobot Roomba S9+ vs Shark IQ

Design

In comparison with other models in the market, these two robot vacuums are the best designing machines I have ever seen for a vacuum cleaner. They don’t apply the same black matte finish standard, the turret on top, or one main brush rolls like other vacuum cleaners (Roborock models, to be exact).

Shark IQ vs iRobot Roomba S9 applies the creator’s imagination of a modern and stylish machine to work – the factor that I believe most robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers are lacking nowadays.

The Roomba S9+ catches my attention at first glance and gives me a particular urge that I should own this machine right away! I believe it was all due to the bronze disc in the center of the lid surface that provides them with a luxurious look, surpassing any existing designs for robot vacuums.

In addition, this next generation of autonomous home cleaning even escapes the basic circular shape and comes with the unique D-shape to catch debris along corners more precisely. Due to this factor, it has a more compact size of only 12.25 x 12.25 x 3.5 inches.

The drawback for Roomba S9+ might be its weight since it tips the scale of 8.2 pounds, which is 2.4 pounds heavier than the Shark IQ. On the other hand, the diameter of Shark IQ is bigger than its counterpart. This is due to the standard circular shape that all robot vacuums have.

I understand that most machines are built for autonomy, but the Roomba S9+ definitely is more efficient in the corner cleaning than any other gadgets in the robot vacuum market.

The construction of the Shark IQ vacuum comes with a creative design. They have the handle on the clean base or charging station for convenient carrying and a recessed glossy black finish in the lid’s middle to emphasize the brand’s name and buttons.

Its charging base is more compact and space-saving than the Roomba S9+. Many people argue that the robot vacuum’s dimensions are not as crucial as the charging dock since the robot docks are often large and sturdy. It sometimes blocks the walking path inside the house as well.

Fortunately, for those who live in a small space, the Shark IQ is the best option for a standard-size robot vacuum and the minimum dock space.

Shark IQ’s design has some similarities with the Roomba S7, but if I have to pick out the most outstanding of two robotic vacuums, I will go for the Roomba S9+.

Suction Power

If you’ve read my review article on Shark IS and Roborock S4 before, I’ve noted that Shark IQ’s suction strength is not clearly defined. But the machine is often being compared to the robust 2500 Pa engine of the iRobot Roomba S9+. These vacuums are best to use for high-carpet floors where it can absorb all the debris with ease.

Apart from the main rubber brushrolls, both models provide their additional side brushes for a better grasp. The Roomba S9+ has the advantage of using 5-arm brushes to collect all the particles, allergens, pollen, and dust mites on the ground back to the main brush.

On the other hand, each of the Shark IQ’s sides includes a single brush and rubberized wheels, capturing debris or pet hair as efficiently as its counterpart. As for the model with half the price of the Roomba S9+, the Sharkclean model does an excellent job at cleaning and sucking dirt on all types of floors.

In comparison, the iRobot Roomba S9+ gains a point for a strong suction level. But I would also love to give Shark IQ an additional point for being as powerful as Roomba S9+ with a much lower price.

Therefore, this round is a tie.

Cleaning Performance

The benefit of owning an iRobot Roomba S9+ lies in the extra-wide and dual brushroll system. Its cleaning performance can be described as combining two single-brush vacuum cleaners where an auto-emptying dustbin is activated.

Instead of going with a short brush like other vacuums, the rotation of two wide brushes is independently in counter directions, gathering more debris into the dustbin.

Users can also control the machine and let it do all the heavy-duty jobs through an iRobot home app. Planning routes, creating no-go zones, setting virtual boundaries, or selecting specific cleaning rooms become so comfortable with just a flick of a finger.

In comparison to its competitor, the cleaning performance of Shark IQ still need to have some improvement. The machine offers a single brushroll, which does not create a decent result on the carpets and hardwood floors as Roomba S9+.

Apart from the creative self-emptying dust bin, Shark IQ’s cleaning ability on high-pile carpets is quite good. It can suck up most of the debris, fur, and pet hair without having them tangled up in the brush. However, the machine can get jammed if the debris is cereal or anything that size.

Its floor mapping and smart navigation capabilities are poorly performed.  Sometimes, the gadget “refuses” to follow your order and steps on the abandon zones or keep mistaking different rooms for each other.

Even though I would prefer to go for a budget option, Shark IQ’s performance is quite disappointing. My choice for this round is undoubtedly the Roomba S9+.

Battery Life

Surprisingly, unlike the other market models, a luxurious gadget like Roomba S9+ uses a 3300 mAh Lithium-Ion battery and takes up to 120 minutes to completely drain out. The same duration is used for charging, pretty convenient and sufficient for homes that need constant cleanings.

Although the Sharkclean company does not indicate the model’s battery capacity, its cleaning time is approximately 160 minutes. When the Shark IQ’s LED light turns red, it will scoot to the charging base and take 240-300 minutes to recharge.

By equipping with the self-emptying dustbins, both powerful robot vacuum cleaners return to the clean base not only for charging but also for releasing waste into the bin. Both of their dust bins can hold up to 30 days of debris.

Luckily, their fancy features do not eat up the battery life, or else the products won’t last long. As for this round, I would go with the gadget that takes longer cleaning runs than the one that requires less charging time.

So, the winner is Shark IQ.

Noise Level

A good vacuum cleaner does have a drawback, and in this case, it’s a noisy engine. Both high-end robots generate very loud noise of even up to 75 decibels, which is as loud as a blender machine!

Unlike the Roborock gadgets equipped with Quiet Mode, Shark IQ vs iRobot Roomba S9+ has no soundproofing materials. Understandably, no buyer would want to waste a fortune on a noisy model; therefore, I suggest you go for another option here

Nope! None of our machines is gaining a point for this round!

Conclusion

Between iRobot Roomba S9+ vs Shark IQ vacuum cleaners, the Roomba S9+ is still a better product. In all aspects, it has a robust motor, fantastic cleanings, extra-long dual brush rollers for efficient dust gathering, and a short charging time.

However, after thoroughly considering all the advantages points of the S9 robot, I discover that the Shark IQ is also a good machine. Its suction power, brushroll feature, bagless base, and compact dock base are not one of their kind but are still competent enough to clean well. Shark IQ just needs to improve on its mapping and laser navigation more.
