Unlike many other brands in the market, Roborock is a company that has continuously improved its products without taking a break or giving excuses for defective products. Their robot vacuums are indeed sturdy, versatile, and very applicable for different house styles.
I will continue to review more of the Roborock vacuums, and we’ll focus mainly on the Roborock S4 vs S4 Max in this article. The S4 Max robot vacuum is the upgraded version of the brand’s popular robotic vacuum S4 so that you might expect some similarities.
In order to get deep into the article, I’ve prepared a table for comparison below. Check it out before reading any further.
Comparison between Roborock S4 vs S4 Max
Since these two robot vacuum cleaners are related to each other, their designs do not differ very much. They’re both constructed with a typical O-shape and a black matte finish on the outer coat. In order to add more taste for the aesthetic value, the silver trim surrounding the gadgets immediately capture the user’s attention at first sight.
There are two main buttons on the top of the lids, indicating the home and power buttons. Depending on the duration of pressing the buttons, you might launch different modes.
For example, if you hold the home button long enough, the spot cleaning mode will be activated. On the flip side, the short press sends the gadget back to the charging base, resting, etc. All of these actions can be controlled through a smartphone APP, and you won’t even have to lay a finger on them.
So what exactly are the differences between them? In terms of design, it’s none!
Both machines provide buyers the full feature of a 5-arm bristle-like brush, an anti-hair brush roll, 2 chunky rubberized wheels, and a caster wheel in front of the robot. Unfortunately, they’re not applicable with the water tank for mopping feature; therefore, their weights are constant at 7.7 pounds.
About the dimensions, you might spot that while other websites claim the Roborock S4 to be only 3.8 inches in height, my blog stated it as 5.8 inches. Do not forget about the turret mounted on the lid’s top! This turret, which includes LDS laser technology, adds 2 more inches for the total sizes.
The only point that I’m quite unsatisfied with both models is the limited color option. Roborock S4 Max vs S4 offers only black shade, bringing a too-standard-yet-classic vacuum cleaner. I do think companies should start investing more in the outer appearance of the robot vacuum. At least, that’s one more factor customers can base upon to make a decision.
If you believe the machine’s outlook does not matter, then let’s move on to the suction strength category.
The suction level of both gadgets are the same 2000 Pa. With this robust engine, I believe your house floor will get rid completely of pet hair, food crumbs, particles, and stubborn dirt from deep inside the fibers.
Sometimes, our eyes cannot detect the debris on the floor, especially on the carpet surfaces. A 2000 Pa suction power will perfectly pick up debris, leaving your house thoroughly cleaned.
The two great things that both models offer buyers are the four-power settings and carpet boost feature. They come with speeds of Quiet, Turbo, Balanced, and Max so that you can adjust to different types of debris and room. You can also customize a lot more levels within the APP settings, so download it immediately and check it out!
Besides, Roborock S4 vs S4 Max will automatically increase suction when carpet is detected and climb over the obstacles without any help from owners. Some claim that the roborock S4 has no carpet boost feature; however, I’ve noticed that its suction strength does become a little stronger when it climbs over the carpet surface.
Its suction power is only weaker than the updated version. Besides, the high-pile carpet is quite incompatible with S4 to crawl up, while the S4 Max robot vacuum can do it in a breeze.
Even though both have very robust engines, the S4 Max has more advanced features. Therefore, I’ll go for the Roborock S4 Max in this round.
The cleaning area of the two robotic vacuums are also identical at 2700 square feet. However, the dustbin size of Roborock S4 is 40 ml smaller than the 460 ml of Roborock S4 Max vacuum cleaner. This leaves me a question mark of how a smaller dustbin can clean the same room size of a larger dustbin.
The answer might be depending on the amount of dirt each house wastes per day. Sometimes bigger homes litter more, and sometimes their trash isn’t much. But it’s no doubt that both Roborock vacuums present excellent cleaning ability.
In this section, we can finally identify the advanced points for the upgraded version of Roborock S4. The improvements are not any significant, but it’s enough to change buyers’ behavior.
The first point lies in the mapping abilities. It can schedule the cleaning cycle and detect automatic room recognition for a more efficient and time-saving process. If you prefer to clean one room specifically, you can arrange that using the APP control through the phone.
The second point is the multi-level mapping support. The Roborock S4 Max’s excellent cleaning performance allows up to 4 maps compared to the basic S4 model’s 3 maps. Houses with floors are the most suitable ones.
After scanning all the floor levels of your house, the robotic vacuum cleaner will auto-start and recognize which floor type it is and use the corresponding map. You also don’t need to carry the charging dock’s position to other floors. The smart home device itself will come back to the starting point where you left it to start the cleaning.
The No-go zones feature is also a factor that cannot lack from a modern vacuum cleaner. Instead of picking it up manually to avoid a certain area, you can still dodge and guide the machine to follow your own path through the app control.
One more great news is that both robots are applicable with the built-in fall protection. The cliff sensors will prevent the robots from going over the edges but still maintain a specific cleanliness level.
Based on all of these points, I believe the S4 Max gadget is the preferable choice.
As you can see in the comparison table above, both robots’ charging and runtimes are approximately the same.
They will require their 5200 mAh battery level to run continuously for 3 hours (180 minutes) until they totally drain out. Before shutting the system due to energy loss, the vacuum will leave its cleaning spot and return to the dock for charging. After about 3 to 4 hours of loading, Roborock S4 vs S4 Max will return to their previously leaving position and continue doing its job.
Since there is no different in the amount of time, this round declares a tie!
Will a 1-decibel noise change anything? I reckon no. The difference between the two Roborock vacuums is not so noticeable, since the S4 produces 68 decibels and 69 decibels for the upgraded model.
Although the Roborock company affirms that all of their products have a quiet mode function, the noise they generate are quite noisy. It’s not too loud, but I believe you can always find a better one with a much reasonable price.
As for me, 1-decibel difference is nothing worth mentioning; so this round is a tie (again)!
Quick Rundown of Roborock Robot Vacuum Cleaner S4
- Multiple maps support (4)
- 2000 Pa suction power
- Four customizable floor plan maps
- Incomplete scheduling ability
- Imperfect automatic carpet detection
Quick Rundown of Roborock Robot Vacuum Cleaner S4 Max
- Excellent Lidar navigation
- Improved climbing ability
- Larger dustbin
- Not very quiet
If you catch the right time, you can always purchase the Roborock S4 vs S4 Max with a good price. Both machines are worth a try; however, I understand that none of us have the utility to buy two modern robot vacuums simultaneously.
If you’ve read the article, you might probably guess the winner of this battle. It’s the Roborock S4 Max with advanced features of S4 model. Larger dustbin size, high-pile carpets eligibility, stronger vacuuming power on non-hardwood floor, and better laser scheduling capability are the 4 factors that surpass the Roborock S4’s performance.
