Nespresso Pixie Breville Vs Delonghi: Which Manufacturer?

Nespresso Pixie Breville Vs Delonghi

There is not a lot to go over in the Nespresso Pixie Breville Vs Delonghi debate. They are largely the same. If I had to choose, I would go for the Delonghi because I do not appreciate the new design of the other.

These machines are supposed to only differ in appearance and maybe in price. That was true until the recent version of the Breville. The BEC430 version has some inconvenient design choices about its control scheme.

The Delonghi is not as good-looking as me but it does not share these problems. It is a little bit cheaper too. Other than that they bear the same specifications and features.

Nespresso Pixie Breville Vs Delonghi – Differences

The Nespresso Pixie Breville comes from the Australian company Breville. Meanwhile, the Nespresso Pixie Delonghi is made in Italy by Delonghi.

Neither of them has the upper hand regarding programmability, capacity, or price. If you only care about brewing quality, either of them is fine. Just choose the one that is available in your area.

Going forward, you will see each unit has scored 1 point. However, one is better in terms of cosmetics while the other is more user-friendly.  Believing that ease of use is the more prominent factor, I give the match to the Delonghi.

Coffee Brewing Quality

The Winner: It’s a tie

Our today’s contestants are single-serve espresso machines. They are made with the technology of Nestlé Nespresso S.A. to get the best out of Nespresso OriginalLine coffee capsules.

The brewing quality of these two espresso makers is the same. They have the same inner components and programs. You will get the same cup of coffee from both of them.

They use a thermoblock to heat up the water which is very suitable for this type of machine. Waiting ten to twenty minutes for a single-serve coffee maker would defeat its purpose.

Their pumps can produce up to 19 bars of pressure. It seems a little overkill to many people. 9 to 15 bars are often enough but remember this is a Nespresso machine for Nespresso capsules. I would like to think that the Néstle people know what they are doing.

They also share some drawbacks as well. Many complain that single-serve coffee is inferior in quality to traditional espresso machines. However, good coffee is a subject matter, and almost every home use product has to make some trade-offs.

Another notable problem is their low top temperature. If you are afraid that low temperature will bring out more of a sour taste, there is a simple workaround.

You can pre-heat their cups with hot water right before extraction. Using their descaling mode on time also helps avoid temperature deficiency.

Design And Materials

The Winner: Nespresso Pixie Breville

What tells them apart is their spout and side panels. The spout of the Nespresso Pixie Delonghi has an L shape which is similar to a traditional wall water faucet.

Unlike it, the Breville uint’s spout has a rounded shape that looks like a reverse water drop. Its circular profile is in line with the rounded top. It gives more harmony to the machine’s facade.

The Delonghi model also has a less consistent design for its side panels. They have a cross-hatch pattern that gives the feeling of a repair job.

Meanwhile, the Breville model provides the same consistency in its lower body as its top part. Its side panels have engraved horizontal lines on their surface, which is akin to its capsule container and drip tray.

For the above reasons, I give this round to the Nespresso Pixie Breville and its appearance.

Ease Of Use

The Winner: Nespresso Pixie Delonghi

One downside of the two Pixie models is they don’t have a built-in frothing system. If you want to make milk-based coffee, you may want an Aeroccino from Nespresso. It is an electric kettle with a whisk.

Besides that, they are the most user-friendly type of espresso makers. There is no grinding, dosing, tamping, and all that messy stuff with these machines.

They use capsules that have an aluminum or plastic casing, a foil top, coffee ground inside, one filter under the top, and one at the bottom. To brew a capsule, just lift the lever, put it in the chamber, and push the Espresso or Lungo button.

The new version of the Breville has two designs that limit its ease of use. Now it no longer has a Power button. To turn on the unit, you push either the Espresso or Lungo button.

These two buttons now carry all of the responsibility of controlling the machine. After a while, I can see a go down in their responsiveness.

The second and more problematic change is the disappearance of the empty tank warning light. It is inconvenient to lose such a helpful feature albeit the water reservoir is see-through.

If you place your machine under a kitchen cabinet or beside two tall objects, you will have to go out of your way to check the water level. A small-sized 24-ounce water tank does not help at all.

Because of these two problems with the new Breville, the Delonghi is the winner of this round and the match.

Hi, I was just about to purchase a good priced delonghi pixie machine but plan to use refillable pods with my own coffee….why does your review say that you can’t use them with this make of machine? Also, do you have any experience with the refillable pods? I just don’t want to ingest aluminum. Thanks

Regret that I cannot share any experience with you because I don’t use pods for Nespresso Pixie Delonghi. But, I used to utilizing OriginalLine Nespresso capsules, which are okay.
